Penalty Rate Hearing Continues at Fair Work

September 4, 2019

HSA has challenged the proposal to cut penalty rates for hair stylists at the Fair Work Commission, with the hearing set to conclude this week. As well as the legal challenge, members, ambassadors and supporters rallied outside the Fair Work Commission on August 26, in an event that made national news.
HSA’s legal team presented evidence to the Fair Work Commission on August 26 and 27. Five hairdressers and a former HSA official all spoke about the current pay and conditions in the hair and beauty industry. The HSA and supporters were represented by two of Australia’s leading industrial barristers, Craig Dowling SC and Yasser Bakri.
The case is still ongoing, with final submissions due in Melbourne on September 5 and 6. We will keep our members and supporters up to date with the latest news and results.
